A simple, practical resource for families and caregivers who want to use familiar music to connect with an older loved one at home.
For older adults, especially those experiencing social isolation or memory loss, familiar music can bring comfort, encourage conversation, and strengthen emotional connection.
Music Share at Home draws from our programming at Music Share for Seniors, where trained volunteers and placement students create personalized playlists and spend meaningful time listening to music with seniors in care settings.
Now, this guide brings that same approach into the home.

Music Share at Home walks you through four simple steps:
1. Discover
Learn about your loved one’s musical story by asking questions about the songs, artists, genres, and memories that have been meaningful throughout their life.
2. Curate
Create a personalized playlist using Spotify or another music streaming app, with songs connected to their preferences, culture, traditions, and life experiences.
3. Listen
Spend intentional time listening together in a comfortable space. The guide includes suggestions for creating a calm environment and encouraging conversation.
4. Connect
Keep building on the experience by refining the playlist over time, noticing which songs create positive responses, and making music a regular opportunity for connection.
